Tonto Dikeh; a King in her own right

Tonto Charity Dikeh, who is recognized as Tonto Dikeh, is a Nigerian actress and philanthropist. Today marks her 37th birthday.

Tonto Dikeh, a Nigerian actress and humanitarian, was born on June 9th, 1985 in Ikwerre, Obi-Akpor LGA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She experienced the loss of her mother at the tender age of three and was subsequently raised by her father. Tonto is the third child in a family of six children and obtained a degree in Petrochemical Engineering from Rivers State University of Science and Technology. Despite her academic background, she pursued her passion for acting, and in 2005, she participated in the Reality TV Show ‘The Next Movie Star’ where she emerged as the first runner-up. Tonto made her acting debut in 2006 with the Nollywood movie ‘Tea or Coffee.’

Tonto Dikeh has acted in many movies over the years, but the one that brought her to the spotlight was “Holy Cross” in which she acted alongside Jim Iyke, Pete Edochie, and Nonso Diobi. This movie boosted her career as she started receiving offers to act in prominent Nollywood movies. One of the notable movies she acted in was “Dirty Secret” in 2010. Her role in the movie, which required her to act in scenes that resembled porn, caused a lot of controversies.

Tonto Dikeh, an actress and musician, received mixed reactions when she made her music debut with two singles titled “Hi” and “Itz Ova” featuring Snypa. Despite criticisms from music critics, she proceeded to release another single titled “Crazically fit” featuring Terry G. Along the way, she acquired different nicknames such as Poko, Tontolet, Mama King, and King Tonto, and recently added “AMB. King Tontolet” to her name on Instagram. As part of her humanitarian efforts, she established the Tonto Dikeh Foundation, aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged and displaced girls, women, youth, and children, regardless of their religion, political and cultural differences.

In 2015, Tonto Dikeh got married to Oladunni Churchill in a traditional wedding ceremony, and in 2016, they welcomed a son named Andre Omodayo Churchill. Unfortunately, their marriage didn’t last long as they parted ways in 2017.
