FashPhiletta Designs Runway Debut at Diaspora Showcase Africa
The Diaspora Showcase Africa, which received an award, was held in Tucson, Arizona, where Fash Philetta Designs presented a collection of high fashion outfits on the runway. These outfits featured colorful African fabrics and designs. The designer behind the label, Philetta Phillips, is from Liberia and brought a taste of Africa to the event. Her collection included cocktail, evening, and formal attire, as well as business suits. Fash Philetta Designs is known for blending African wear with European silhouettes, resulting in elegant yet simple clothing that is affordable. The label caters to both mature adults and young professionals.

FashPhiletta Designs, based in Houston, showcased a collection at the Diaspora Showcase Africa. The collection comprised of cocktail dresses, prom dresses, evening gowns, and casual wear that drew inspiration from Africa. The outfits were made using Ankara fabrics mixed with materials such as satins and cottons. The male and female models wearing Ankara vests to complement their business suits were well received by the audience
“I was impressed to see a large number of enthusiastic guests at the fashion show which was well-attended by the community. Doing a fashion show in Arizona was also an opportunity to expand my network into Arizona. I use a combination of fabrics from different countries across the world however Ankara and tribal prints are the core fabrics in my latest collection. Today Africa is the new source of global inspiration for beauty and fashion. Philetta Phillips, the founder of FashPhiletta Designs, draws inspiration from her African heritage to create custom formal gowns and casual attire. Kwevi Quaye produced the Diaspora Showcase Africa in September 2017, which was held in Tucson, Arizona. The event showcased various aspects of African culture such as fashion, music, dance, food, and entertainment. Guests were provided with a four-course dinner and enjoyed live music performances, including Afro-Pop, Jazz, and Classical. The Diaspora Showcase Africa has received critical acclaim and awards for its innovative approach in portraying Africa’s culture by integrating the sound and style of fashion, music, dance, and food from the five regions of Africa into a single show.
