Heavy Shelling Rocks Rafah as Biden Warns Against Israeli Offensive
Heavy shelling has engulfed Rafah in the southern Gaza strip, escalating tensions as US President Joe Biden issues a stern warning to Israel against launching a major offensive in the densely-packed city, Excel Magazine International reports.
President Biden’s cautionary statement, threatening to withhold weapons and artillery supplies if Israeli troops enter Rafah, has sparked controversy and drawn criticism from Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, who labeled it “very disappointing.”
According to Scott Anderson, a representative from the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, the fighting is intensifying and moving towards the city center.
Biden’s remarks come in the wake of the US confirming a delay in a shipment of bombs to Israel over concerns about the situation in Rafah.
Despite the delay, US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin reaffirmed America’s commitment to ensuring Israel’s defense capabilities.
