The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is collaborating with the United States Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) in curbing the influx of illicit drugs and arms into the country.

Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi revealed that he recently met with CBP officials in Washington DC to address the issue.

Excel Magazine International reports that the meeting aimed to enhance NCS operations amidst increasing gang sophistication, with discussions focusing on integrating AI and geospatial intelligence tools.

CGC Adeniyi expressed excitement about the potential benefits of this collaboration, stating that a needs assessment is underway to determine priorities.

On President Bola Tinubu’s directive to remove tariffs to reduce food prices, CGC Adeniyi noted that the President is empowered by the Nigeria Customs Service 2023 to determine and vary tariffs on imported goods to combat food inflation.

The Customs boss reassured that the service remains committed to disrupting smuggling cartels of illicit drugs, arms, and ammunition through intelligence-driven solutions.
