Sadiq Khan Wins as London Mayor for 3rd Term
Labour’s Sadiq Khan has clinched a significant victory, securing his third consecutive term as mayor of London.
In a decisive win, Khan garnered over 276,000 votes more than his Conservative counterpart, Susan Hall, marking a notable swing of 3.2% in favor of Labour.
Excel Magazine International reports that the mayor clinched victory in nine out of the 14 constituencies, achieving two gains from the Tories.
With over 2.4 million votes cast, voter turnout stood at 42.8%, slightly lower compared to the 2021 mayoral election.
Following the announcement of his victory at City Hall in east London, Khan expressed his gratitude, stating, “It is the honor of my life to serve the city that I love.”
In light of the challenges faced during the campaign, Khan emphasized the importance of countering fearmongering with facts, asserting, “Today is not about making history; it is about shaping our future.”
Additionally, Khan used his victory speech to call for a general election, urging Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to take action.
